Forest of Arden Golf & Country Club, located in the heart of Warwickshire, features two championship courses: the Arden Course and the Aylesford Course. The Arden Course, a par-72 layout stretching over 7,213 yards, is renowned for hosting prestigious professional tournaments, including the British Masters. The Aylesford Course, a shorter par-69 course, offers a more relaxed yet still challenging round. Both courses are set within 10,000 acres of lush parkland and include natural water hazards, mature trees, and strategic bunkers. The signature par-3 eighteenth on the Arden Course offers stunning views and requires a precise shot over water. Conveniently located near the M42 and A45, the club is easily accessible from Birmingham and Coventry. Nearby attractions, such as Warwick Castle and the NEC, add to the area’s appeal. Forest of Arden provides a world-class golfing experience, combining exceptional courses with luxurious amenities.

Living on its previous reputation

Turned up to play on a Sunday afternoon, and the first noticeable thing is that it is no longer part of the Marriott group. That should have told us all something.
The Arden -
Considering the atrocious weather the UK has had this winter (and last autumn), it is not surprising there were no buggies permitted. That said, the courses are not in any condition. We played the 'championship' course on day one. I can state quite categorically, that it is no longer the course that I played around 12 years ago. The whole course is overgrown to some extent. Much of that could be put down to weather conditions, but not all of it. Tee boxes are OK, but fluffy. Fairways were, again fluffy, but at least with pick and place, a chance to practice off the deck with a driver, but they are very wet, what was required were areas marked as GUR. The greens were the best part of the course, but again lack of care leaves them sub par. I will give it 3.5 out of 5.
The Aylesford -
Again no buggies and fairways that actually should have been mostly GUR. This second day had rain, but the only reason the greens started puddling was that they were so waterlogged already. The rough is so poor because of the lack of care (bad weather to a degree) and very tufty, so no fun if you go in it. It was good to see the green keepers out on manoeuvres whilst we were out there, fairways were getting a good cutting - just a pity it was after our group had played them. I can only give this course 2 out of 5.

In summary, Forest of Arden need to up their game, not live on their previous reputation, which is rapidly disappearing. Would I go back? Possibly, but only after a dry spell. This is not a course that handles a lot of rain well.

Fantastic course for all ranges of handicap

Beautiful Arden course is one of the best you will come across. Has all the challenges you'd want and the greens are excellent. Course, including bunkers are well maintained. Worth a trip just to play

Beautiful course, well worth a visit

The Aylesbury course is the shorter of the 2 but still a good & fair challenge. Greens were going through a maintenance cycle so had been spiked & were sandy. Fairly level, water on the course but not major hazard. If in the area worth going round

Great pair of courses

We played both the Arden and the Aylseford in a play and stay deal - which was excellent value with dinner and breakfast thrown in.

The Arden being the better course, with attractive challenging holes - the back nine was particularly tricky with lots of length, trees, water and undulations requiring some thought and good shot selection.

We played the Aylseford second, which while a little shorter and more open was still a good test (although I shot a much better score so I would say that).

The clubhouse/hotel was nice - decent rooms, food not bad and a friendly club shop.

The Arden course

Great course.

Greens were fast and true.

Front 9 different to back 9 ......... front 9 more tree lined. Back 9 harder than front with the added attraction of deer!
A number of signature holes including the par 3 18th over water to the green in front of the club house.

Great venue well worth staying and playing like we did.
