Rapidly improving

A course which is maturing nicely with some challenges on every hole. Course is about to be expanded to 27 holes. Well worth a visit.

A very enjoyable course/venue

Weybrook Park is a parkland style course on the outskirts of Basingstoke, Hampshire, overlooking the Hampshire downs.About a 90 minute drive from South West London.

It is a members club that asserts that it has a welcoming attitude to societies and green fee players! The club was opened in May 1997, by professional players Retief Goosen, Howard Clark, Peter Hedblom and Paul Broadhurst. However, a new front 9 holes was opened in 2016 and the old front 9 is being given a makeover to bring them up to the qualities of the new front 9 and to enhance the overall course provision of 27 holes.

This is a par 71 off the mens tees and par 72 from the ladies tee.

The mens tees are Black, White and Yellow. However, there is only 100 yards difference between the Black and the White tees, across 6 of the front 9 holes only!

The course is chalk based and appears to drain well! The profile of the front 9 is more open than the back 9, though at least 7 of the new front 9 holes have water hazards to avoid! The two par 3s and the par 4 5th were particularly intimidating. The old back 9 is a more tree lined part of the course! The par 5 14th and the downhill par 4 16th are troublesome!

There is a decent amount of bunkering and the sand quality was OK!

Greens were firm, generally big and undulating, with perceiveable difference in speed between each of the two 9s!

The green fee was only £20. Excellent vfm! I arrived too late to have time to wait for a cooked breakfast but I did have a rather nice cup of beef soup. There was also warmed quick snack pies/pasties/sausage rolls available!

I very much enjoyed the course, playable but also dangerous, and also our fellow TSG company. This is an excellent society venue.

Nice course

This is a nice open course that has some very interesting holes on. When I played it it was on the day of the club championship, so the greens were lightning fast. With the contoured greens it meant that there were few easy putts.

Not a short course, it is made (slightly) easier by firm fairways that I imagine are made possible by free draining soil. It's a course that is going to test you, and it's worth giving it a go if you're in the area.

Weybrook Park

Difficult course especially the front nine which is very hilly. Often strong wind which makes it more difficult. After a hiccup with birds digging up the turf on the fairways, well kept greens and fairways. Very much a members course and difficult to get paired up if not part of seniors or ladies groups. new holes coming into play this year with water features. Quite expensive if cannot play twice a week as member or casual visitor.

WEYBROOK PARK GC

Played here for the first time today - £12 on a special deal. The course is very well manicured with lush fairways, sensible grading of rough and excellent greens - well done to the greenkeeping team. Reasonably straightforward but at 6200 pretty long off the yellows. Unfortunately a handful of the holes have a landfill tip as a backdrop which is quite unsightly. I prefer Dummer and Sandford Springs in the locality.
