Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, a local favourite, islocated in an area of outstanding natural beauty on a former rice plantation bordering the Waccamaw River.
With a design that was careful to preserve the natural surrounding, architect Mike Strantz has jumped to the top of the most wanted designer list with this his first solo design.
From the entrance lined with centuries old live oaks to its antebellum-styled clubhouse, Caledonia is a world-class experience. The course,6,526 yards from the back tees for a Par of 70, is relatively short by modern standards but the Course rating at 72 and the Slope at140 tell thereal story. The fairwaysare wide and offer generous landing areasand the greens are huge but they are well guarded, undulating a difficult to read.
The quality and beauty of Caledonia Golf and Fish Club is bestdemonstrated by the awards it has won - 5th Best New Course in America (Golf Digest); 26th in the 'Top 100 You Can Play' (Golf Magazine); one of the 'Top 30 Best Upscale Course in America'; Plus being awarded a 4 1/2 star rating by Golf Digest.
With multiple tee positions the course can play easy enough to be enoyed by the average golfer or hard enough to test the best.
