Stunningly beautiful

Steeped in tradition, elegance but with a modern approach fit for the 21 century. There is nothing not to like.

Dating back to 1893, one of the oldest heathland course in Surrey and part of the "3Ws": Worplesdon & Westhill, ranked in the Top 100 in Britain and currently placed 16th, I believe.

I had the privilege to be invited to Woking GC by a friend of mine who has recently joined this club and already feels part of it.

Well, did I enjoy my experience? Yes, indeed, one should have seen my smile when I received the invite. It was a memorable for all the right reasons. Every hole is very attractive with perfect Tee boxes, carpet like fairways and the most AMAZING Greens, such a pleasure to play. Tough, challenging due to the long carries over heathers, a lot of bunkers have heathers growing on their edges too. The sand is slightly coarse which provides a great carry out of the bunker. I visited at least 7 bunkers in my round and managed every escape. Well, it must be my practice when in "pot bunkers" during my recent Scottish Links trip (which I must review on TSG, as I know many of my TSG followers are awaiting eagerly).

The course has a little bit of Woburn, Foxhills, Wentworth, Le Touquet & Hardelot's feel due to the very tall pines on every hole, which provide a very scenic atmosphere. There are a few ups and downs, bur easily walkable, fantastic views everywhere you look.

The 18th is very memorable for sure, a stunning shortish Par 4, slight dogleg right, an enormous green sloping to a lake on the right, with a backdrop of light purple rhododenrons, a few swans/cygnets enjoying a swim in the evening sunlight, the Clubhouse is on the left and people enjoying a drink on the open terrace, cladded in wisteria, can watch the final hole being played.

The 16th, Par 3, is a fantastic little hole over a large lilie pond/lake & stream, deep bunkers to guard an unbelievably well contoured green! Managed a 4 including my bunker shot.

The 14th is well worth mentioning as the Green is in front of the open veranda/terrace, should one overshoot the green, play the ball as it lies, whether on the terrace or in the clubhouse.... Ah, ah, ah...

There is not a “specific “ signature hole , the Pro told me it is up to the players / visitors / members to choose !!!! So many holes to choose from.

A very inviting practice Putting Green, bordered by pretty Summer flowers, Proshop by the side and a temporary "Covid-19" marquee with all "mod cons". Warm welcome in the Proshop, lovely clothings, but not many Ladies'stuff.

Traditional Clubhouse with wooden honour 's boards, spacious corridors with antique furniture and memorabilia.

Smart, airy, modern Ladies changing rooms.

Very friendly Bar staff, members seem to certainly appreciate their Club, what a great place.

Plenty of Parking for members and visitors alike.

Highly recommended.

THE END....

Play it if you can

A real treat to play such a beautiful historic course, each sweeping fairway flanked by very tall pines, I'm told it's like Sunningdale only better!!
